My New Year Resolutions

Every December 31st I make the same resolutions, and every year I fail at completing those resolutions – usually within the first month of the new year.    I start off with good intentions.  They are:

  • Eat healthier
  • Exercise
  • Spend time studying the Bible
  • Get back to sewing

“It is more Important to be of pure intention than of perfect action.”
Ilyas Kassam

“All that counts in life is intention.” –Andrea Bocelli

I disagree with these quotes.  If it were true, wouldn’t my life be perfect?  I am unhappy with myself.  I know I need to do better to make myself better.

25 Things That Make Me Smile…

Sometimes, I need something to remind myself about joyful things in life.  Here are 25 things that make me smile…

My kids at Christmas holding Santa Claus Beard lollipops.

1. Pictures of my kids.
I especially love the pictures of them having fun.  Brings back a lot of memories.  Of course I think my kids are the cutest – like any parent should feel about their own children.

Items I Love For My Dogs…

When we adopted Kora, I went to my trusty website and checked out things to buy for our new addition.  Oh my gosh, there are so many things to choose!  Some things failed (mainly because of disinterest) while other things were outstanding.  Below are some of my purchases:

November is Adoption Awareness Month.  Since I am adopted, this means a lot to me.    Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s Intl. has a charity for adoption awareness called The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.  Their mission statement is “We have one mission – to dramatically increase the number of adoptions from foster care.  Here is my story…

7 Things I Love About November…

Halloween is over but before I get to thinking about Christmas, I plan to enjoy the month of November with my Thanksgiving preparations and decorating.  Here are 7 things I love about November…

I like this day because the clock gives me one more hour.  One more hour to sleep in.  One more hour of awake time.  While I don’t agree with daylight saving time, my grumbling about the springing forward won’t change a thing.  So, I deal with it by trying to make it a positive thing  –  falling back.

Election Day in the United States of America in the Tuesday following the first Monday in November.    I get to exercise my rights and vote.  Nuff said

Meet Maggie, our newest adoption…

Maggie, our second dog was born in March, 2018.  We adopted her when she was 4 months old.  I was happy my husband had a dog, but I needed my own cuddle buddy.  I searched through for a week searching for a face that spoke to me.  I grew up with a collie and had a collie in my younger adulthood, so I desired another collie.  Maggie is a collie mix.  Mom is a smooth-coat collie, dad is unknown.  The picture showed a young pup.  When my husband and I drove to southern Ohio, about a 90 minute drive, she was much larger than I thought.  And the paws!  Made me wonder who her birth father really was.

Meet Kora, our rescue dog…

Kora, our first dog after 20 years of being dog-less and 2 years of being a nester.  Kora was adopted from K9 Hero Haven in Herndon, PA on November 21, 2017.
K9 Hero Haven obtains military and commercial working dogs that have been retired.  I first heard about them from a co-worker whose brother adopted one of them.  When I discussed it with my husband, a retired submariner, he said that IF we were to adopt a dog, this is where he would like to get one.  First I filled out an eight page adoption application.  I requested a labrador retriever.  Luckily they had one to adopt out.

Personality type tests…

Hello friend!  Sometimes, I have difficulty putting a name to things – especially when it comes to describing myself or my feelings.  I recently came across an article about personalities that included a quiz of twenty questions you could answer a, b, c, or d.  Then if you choose the majority of one type of answer, you were given your personality type.  Now if you are anything like me, the majority of these types of quizzes result in a tie between two or more results.  Does that mean I am a mixture of several results?  So, I retake the quiz with a little more thought to the answers.  Sometimes the questions are way out there or I have difficulty choosing only one answer.  Should I skip it?  Sometimes the answer changes a little, sometimes not.  This particular quiz indicated that I am an empath with a 19-1 result.  Finally, a name to call it!
